Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
An eagerly awaited game in the Dragon Quest saga. Having only played Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2 I am only following the Dragon Quest games and not the earlier Dragon Warrior games. Anyway I really liked 8 so I was waiting patiently for this one to come along. I think about a year after it came out I finally got around to playing it! That's how much I'd been wanting to play this game!
Right ok so the fact that you play a slime in this game was a little disappointing... Especially after playing a Dragovian Prince in DQ8. (That should have had a spoiler alert... ooops) And seeing as the slime is the first, worst enemy, I had my doubts. Once you get past that though the game is very enjoyable.
You start of playing with your slime friends in the palace garden (leading me to belive the "Hero" was royal again. Alas no! He's the son of a palace guard). You find a "warrior flute" and then your dad shouts abuse at you and you swallow it and the flute. Good job too 'cause some angry platapus guys decide they hate your kind and bomb your village - those racist bastards! Then they go on to kidnap all the village inhabitants. They try to take you but you look like a flute so they leave you behind.
Right action time! The goal of the game is to "rescue" all the residents and escort them back to town. Luckily the "Plob" (the bad guys) have made this very easy by dropping your mates off in boxes throughout various levels. Did I say escort them to town? I meant throw them ont
o this train thingy and let them take their chances! Also you're supposed to do the same with the enemies, who then turn up at your town - I'd have thought this would be a problem but there must be some conversion ray in town that makes them all friendly. I was confused!Right, ok, so you're going about with a broken flute ('cause it broke when you spat it back up) grabbing enemies and fiddling with them above your head and having a good time meeying all your old friends in boxes. Then you come across some tomb that turns out to be a ginat tank fortress which you can summon when you fix the warrior flute (ah-ha!) that looks like this:
Throughout the game you find ammo for your tank and ways of increasing its HP.
The bottom here shows the slime carrying his "ammo" to load into the cannons which drop from chutes in the tank.
He looks like he's having a really odd party with a rock, some champagne and a missile with a "2" on it.
Once you get the enemy tank's HP to 0 you have to go over and smash up its engine which is heart shaped - awwwwy!
Yeah so thats basically the game without giving too much away. Rescue slimes in a tank fighting and collecting enemies and gathering items. And like all Dragon quest games that I have played (two) alcamy makes a return!
So a nice colourful game worth a look at - I liked it anyway!
Why can't the tank look better though :(
I've just started playing Dragon Quest 4 on the DS which is supposed to be an actual real RPG so I'll let you know how that goes. So far I met a girl whi I knew who could turn into a frog... Are transforming girls a theme in Dragon Quest games? - only time will tell!
And finally - the internet is a place of wonders! Whilst looking for the pictures for this post I found this one:
Brilliant!
